I started my internship at TKH Airport Solutions two weeks ago, and there are definitely various differences I noticed between two sides of the globe regarding workplace culture. As a Vietnamese, I’m happy to share some of the interesting facts and if you also want to share about your own experience, feel free to contact me. I’ll do an investigation about that \ud83d\ude09.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweetness added<\/strong>\ud83e\uddcb:<\/strong> Coffee is an important part of workplace culture here in the Netherlands. Most people drink black coffee, and it’s available during meetings, in the mornings, and really at any time of day. In Vietnam and other Asian countries, we drink mostly instant coffee, with milk and sugar. And only in the morning because coffee there is being made in a way that just one shot can keep you awake the whole day. In the afternoon, we order street food or drinks like boba for colleagues to enjoy with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hot meal for lunch<\/strong>\ud83c\udf5c<\/strong>: Traditionally, I know that many Western people bring lunch to work, usually a sandwich and fruit. Bread is healthy, convenient and fills you up quickly for a productive day at work. On the other side of the world, employees are given more time on lunch break (1-1.5 hours) to enjoy a hot meal. There’s usually a canteen where you can buy your food, or you can also use some spare times to eat out with your colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nap time \ud83d\ude34<\/strong>: This may sound very new to you, but people in Vietnam take a nap after lunch before work in the afternoon to recharge their energy. It comes from a thousand years of agriculture culture, when the farmer of a rice paddy field takes a noon nap to avoid extreme heat in this time. So yes, it is because our ancestors always take nap \ud83d\ude0a People start to work early, at 8, and finish around 6. In Spain, I believe people do the same thing and it’s called “siesta”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these differences make our world more dynamic, diverse, and culturally exciting. Working at TKH Airport Solutions in the Netherlands, I’m thrilled to embrace both the workplace culture and Dutch lifestyle here. What’s it like in Denmark, Germany, and Canada?
