QUEMS Recertification Audit – What to expect

Dear colleagues,

Our upcoming QUEMS Recertification Audit will assess whether our Quality & Environmental Management System remains certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

The auditor will not only review our processes and documentation, but also look at how the QUEMS is applied in our daily work.

What can you expect?

During the audit, the auditor may:

  • Review processes, objectives and results
  • Speak with employees and managers
  • Check improvements made since the previous audit
  • Verify compliance with internal procedures and external requirements

What might the auditor ask you?

Don’t worry, it is not an exam. Questions may include:

  • What is your role?
  • How do you know what is expected from you?
  • What do you do when something goes wrong?
  • Have there been any improvements in your area?

What is the auditor looking for?

The main focus will be on:

  • Consistency – Are we doing what we say we do?
  • Evidence – Can we demonstrate that activities are performed and monitored?
  • Awareness – Do employees understand their responsibilities?
  • Improvement – Can we show that we learn and improve?

How can you prepare?

  • Know your responsibilities.
  • Be familiar with the procedures relevant to your work.
  • Know the current objectives and recent improvements within your area.
  • Explain honestly how your work is performed.
  • If you do not know an answer, simply say so and explain where the information can be found.

Remember: the auditor is not looking for perfection. The goal is to see that people understand their work, processes are under control, improvements are being made, and the QUEMS supports the organization in performing better.

Know your role. Show your evidence. Explain your improvements.
