Navigating Through Digital Changes

AI has become a more significant part in most people’s lives than we might realize. Especially due to how difficult it is to recognize AI generated content, often people do not even realize the stuff they are looking at is fake!

Online media is changing, with increasing amounts of AI generated content, which brings along a new problem that was not that present until AI’s uprising. This new problem is impersonation. It has become much easier to steal another individual’s identity. Ai has made it possible to change photos, videos, and even create audios from small snippets of content.

Most of the time impersonation is used to manipulate, harm, or intimidate another individual. This happens through methods like phishing, spreading fake news or content, often to damage someone’s reputation, or scamming.

As ability to impersonate grows, so do the chances of you coming across it!

Why is this so important?

Online impersonation can lead to reputation damage for organizations, emotional distress for individuals, and even theft of your personal information!

How to avoid it?

Avoiding AI entirely is impossible nowadays, although we can handle with care and consideration when using it. Below are a few tips when using AI, and what to look out for when interacting with online media!

  • Never share sensitive or personal data online, or through unverified communications
  • Use strong passwords, and never share them!
  • Report suspicious activity. Do you get an e-mail with a link or question to share personal info? Report it to the IT department!
  • Google your own name or organization sometimes. If something or someone comes up that isn’t you, report it!
  • If you don’t know if you can trust something, ask for help. There is always someone that will know what to do.
